The MAT is a high-level test of analytical ability that requires the solution of problems stated as analogies, A:B :: C:D . The MAT consists of partial analogies that are to be completed in 60 minutes.
The MAT is available in 2 formats: computer-based and paper and pencil. The computer-based format (CBT) contains 100 items and will provide the candidate with an unofficial score report at the end of the test session. The paper and pencil test form contains 100 core items, which count toward your score, and 20 experimental items that are being tried out for use on future test forms and do not affect your score. Because you will not know which items are experimental and which items count toward your score, it is very important that you do your best on all the items on the test. Examinees may not request to take only the core items or to have only the core items scored.
The MAT is intended to measure your ability to recognize relationships between ideas, your fluency in the English language, and your general knowledge of the humanities, natural sciences, mathematics, and social sciences. There is no foreign-language edition of the MAT. You are not permitted to use a dictionary or any other reference aid when taking the MAT.
The MAT is offered at the University of Oregon Testing Office by appointment. The fee for the MAT is $70.00.
